The organizers of the Columbia Food and Wine Festival (CFWF) announce that the event’s 2020 programming will be redeveloped to create a safer, more controlled experience for sponsors, vendors and attendees alike. The festival had been originally scheduled for April and then was postponed to August 20-23 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initial programming for the festival included seven small, intimate ‘satellite events’ across the region August 20-22 followed by the primary outdoor tastings event at Historic Columbia’s Hampton Preston Mansion on August 23. With the guidance of the CFWF Advisory Committee, festival organizers have determined that holding these events in August cannot be conducted in a manner that allows for social distancing and provides a safe experience for vendors and attendees.

As such, the Columbia Food and Wine Festival will be retooled to include two outdoor seated dining experiences — an outdoor dinner on Saturday, August 22 at 7:30 PM, and an outdoor brunch on Sunday, August 23 at 11:00 AM. Both events will be held across both the Hampton-Preston Mansion and its sister property across the street, the Robert Mills House. Both properties are managed by Historic Columbia.

Each of this year’s outdoor dining experiences will be done in four zoned seating areas, with two zones on each historic property. Each zone will allow for up to 100 attendees, with total attendance capped at 400. At each event, attendees will enjoy a four-course meal prepared by a team of three to four chefs, with a different team preparing menu for each respective zone.

Festival organizers have developed a full safety plan for these events, including:

 Expanded registration/check-in process and physical space to allow for social distancing

 Utilizing digital thermometers to document all attendees’ body temperatures prior to check-in

 Disposable masks and individual hand sanitizer bottles available to all attendees

 Tables of no more than six seats, with each no less than six feet apart

 Established directions for each zone’s attendees to enter/exit the events.

 All courses will be individually plated and served.

As a result, governments and health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people. While the Company has implemented preventative measures designed to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Company cannot guarantee that eventgoers will not become infected, and attending this event may increase the risk of contracting COVID-19. EVERYONE ATTENDING THIS EVENT IN ANY CAPACITY ASSUMES ALL THE FOREGOING RISKS.
